Dr HC Leong Dental @ Eu Tong Sen Street near Clarke Quay

EDIT: I would like to include that he often replies emails and SMSes promptly regarding questions, and also attempts to be more conservative according to your preferences. his replies are also rather good in the sense that it's not some general reply to patronise you. So i think this good service does makes people want to go back again. He is also the owner of his clinic. Dentists and patients always have conflicting interests. I'm not sure if being the owner would help it or not.

So I was going to do some reviews on the numerous dentists that I visited, but I have yet to review on this one, even though I went to this dentist the most no. of times. So here goes...

Would I recommend Dr Hc Leong dental? The essence of this review is Yes, but with some amount of caution.

Generally, there is good service and good amount of comfort. After all, 1 filling goes up to $100-$150. But there is CHAS subsidy for those who have that.

However, he is not exactly the most conscientious dentist. I realised that he is not exactly thorough in his cleaning/polishing sessions. He often neglect the back molars which I feel are the most important since we tend to neglect them during our daily brushing. There was once that my back molar was already decaying with an obvious hole in my tooth but during the cleaning session, he actually failed to notice it. I visited another dentist 1 week later for my filling and she told me about my back molar thats when I realised. When I went back to him another week later (At that point of time, I realised I had quite a few tooth decay that explains the frequent checkups), he told me that tooth decay can occur pretty fast because a lot of tartar can just buildup with just a can of coke.

Sounds to me like a load of excuses. A hole in the tooth doesnt just pop up in 1 week. In any case, I do go back to him for cleaning after that and I do realised he needs to pay more attention to the back molars. The reason why I still go to him for cleaning is that actually i realised this problem is quite prevalent among other dentists. Still cant find a good enough one.

  1. Hi, I happen to chance upon your blog as I am also looking for a TLC and patient dentist. When I read your intro and review I could totally relate to it! I't difficult to find proper reviews on dentists. I've been searching for the right dentist all this time. It's either they are nice but equipment aren't updated (important on the comfort as I've been scared by one Q&M dentist ever since my first root canal)or they have advanced equipment but very pricey and not as patient.

I had tolerated another 2 more root canal years later. I am now seeking a second opinion after being told I need to do 2 root canal treatments when I thought the problem was an old filling coming off. I can't help but be sceptical as he kept trying to do some nerve sensory test on me to make sure if my nerve of those 2 teeth are alive and trying to find ways to "make more money" feeling. He insisted on an xray which i had taken one 360deg last year and he said things may have changed and i know even if i were to take this xray, nothing significant can be seen cos i was told it would not be as clear as those taken by the film (i had problems putting the big film in my mouth). So yes, I've spent $144 just for consultation and this useless xray and unnecessary radiation exposure.

When I googled about whether root canal treatment is necessary, i was shocked to read that it's actually not good for health and may cause some illnesses! And then it somehow also led me to read about amalgam fillings which i had plenty thanks to poor oral hygiene when i was young and all the sugar and soft drinks. So i kinda felt cheated by all the past dentists who merely just do what they need to do instead of providing useful preventive advices. I remembered one told me there's nothing I could do except not to eat anything sweet. Gosh!

I'm thinking of trying out Dr HC Leong as the pricing looks reasonable and I hope that he's a patient dentist as I do gag easily partly due to the anxiety and phobia I had from my bad root canal experience.

Found HL Leong dental and saw your blog about his service. Think I may give him a try. Do hope to read more of your reviews and hope to find the ONE dentist that we can stick for life.
